Updates for 2014 – 2018 and what’s next…

October 20, 2018 by wpugsg Leave a Comment

We have so much to share… to make up for the lack of updates here since 2014.

We aren’t dead here. Despite the bare content here, we have been regularly organising meetups (32 thus far) and 2 WordCamps since 2014. We have had excellent speakers, great crowd, awesome community and supportive sponsors. We continue to look forward to more of you joining us on the epic journey of WordPress.

Our content are mostly on elsewhere. From when we have relaunched WordPress User Group Singapore, we have access to plenty of tools that weren’t available previously. It is only right that we give them a shout out.

Engineers.SG

Engineers.SG is a fruit of labour by Michael Cheng, a long time fixture in the local tech community in Singapore. The aim of this platform is to have most, if not all tech meetups recorded for the benefit of those who can’t attend the meetups, a problem that became more apparent when there were more meetups being held concurrently in different locations.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, we always had our meetups recorded by them. You can catch our speakers in the action on Engineers.sg:

Meetup.com is the events management platform that we are using. Our meetup group, WordPress Singapore, is sponsored by WordPress Foundation.

October 2014 Meetup Wrap-up

October 19, 2014 by wpugsg Leave a Comment

The 2nd Singapore WordPress User Group Meetup happened on 8th October 2014, .7,30pm to 8.30pm. In contrast with the first Meetup in September, this time there was no talks being given. Instead, any participant of the meetup is free to discuss topics related to WordPress.

There was about 10 participants attending this meetup.

James started off sharing about a learning management system that is built on top of WordPress’ engine. The sharing then expanded into sharing of plugins and experiences of using the plugins that extend the functionality of WordPress into ecommerce, SEO, ratings, polls, view count, and backing up installations. Also on the stability of hosting, managed WordPress hosting providers was shared as well.

The list of plugins and managed hosting providers is available on our Facebook group. It will be updated as and when there are new plugins being recommended.

The next Meetup is tentatively set on the 3rd of December 2014.

First Singapore WordPress Meetup in 2014 And Thank You!

September 14, 2014 by wpugsg Leave a Comment

After much feet dragging (and alcohol), we finally gotten around to having our first WordPress meetup in Singapore after 3 years of dry spell!

The WordPress meetup was held on 10th September 2014, at HackerspaceSG. HackerspaceSG is Singapore’s first co-working space which supports the general community by hosting public events for free. The roots of WPUG.SG is tied intrinsically to HackerspaceSG through the close association of the founding team and the space.

We were wowed by the turnout of the attendees, with over a dozen coming in to listen to Lester, Robert and Kian Ann touching on three different topics: security, server configuration and Google Analytics. It is always a challenge to speak to such a crowd as they are portionately developers, users and designers.

However, the response from the crowd was encouraging, and the level of engagement between the everyone, the speakers and the participants higher than what we expected. Most attendees stayed on for an hour more or so, discussing on the topics delivered and other related content.

We declare that the first WordPress meetup for 2014 to be a success! The next meetup will be on 8th October 2014, Wednesday, 7.30pm (+8 GMT).

Following are the slides from the Meetup (and any supplementary notes that the speakers may have):

WPUG.SG is back!

August 18, 2014 by wpugsg Leave a Comment

Hi all!

Singapore WordPress User Group is back! We apologies for the lack of activities after WordCamp 2011.

The renewal of the User Group came right after a successful organisation for Matt Mullenweg’s Meetup at Microsoft Singapore, led by Singapore PHP User Group’s Michael Cheng. In the organising team, original co-founders of WPUG.SG, Lester and Robert were involved.

For starters, we are bringing back the meetups. The first meetup will occur on 10 September, 2014! If you can make it, do come!

In the meantime, this site is undergoing a revamp. Please bear with us as we update the design and the content of the site.
